RCMP RELEASE:
On February 24th during the lunch hour, a member of the Bonnyville RCMP conducted a roadside check with a pickup truck at a location on 66 Street just south of 50th Ave and was dealing with two male occupants. While the member was running the driver’s documents the driver fled but unfortunately for the culprits the truck broke down less than a kilometre down the road where both occupants exited and began fleeing on foot. The member pulled up to the truck and took chase on foot catching up to both males and placing them under arrest. Both males were found to be in possession of a handgun, ammunition, a knife, multiple brass knuckles, crystal meth, suspected fentanyl, hundreds of non illicit tablets, various drug paraphernalia and thousands of dollars in cash. Both 35 year old Derek Drake of Cold Lake and 33 year old Andrew Heigh of Edmonton are charged with a multitude of weapons offences, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of Stolen Property and Resisting Arrest. Drake is additionally charged with Flight from Police, Driving while Prohibited and Driving an Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Bail hearings were held and both males were remanded in custody and are awaiting their first court appearance.
