RCMP RELEASE:
On the early morning hours of October 21, 2024, Cold Lake RCMP responded to a firearms complaint in Cold Lake First Nations.
Officers arrived on scene and obtained a search warrant at a residence. During the search, police located suspected cocaine, prescription pills, and items commonly used in drug trafficking. Police also located several firearms including a loaded automatic AK-47 rifle, a STEN submachine gun with loaded magazine cartridges, and two sawed-off shotguns. A male and a female were arrested and taken into custody in relation to this investigation.
Tealyn Marten, a 25-year-old resident of Cold Lake First Nation, has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking;
- Possession of a loaded prohibited Firearm without a license;
- Possession of a prohibited firearm without a license;
- Careless storage of a firearm;
- Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order;
- Failing to comply with conditions of a release order.
Jaylin Favel, a 21-year-old resident of Cold Lake, has been charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a loaded prohibited Firearm without a license;
- Possession of a prohibited firearm without a license;
- Careless storage of a firearm;
- Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order;
Both Marten and Favel were taken before a Justice of the Peace and were remanded into custody. They are scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice on Oct. 22, 2024 in Cold Lake.
Police are actively investigating the firearms that were seized. Several of the firearms have no markings or serial numbers.
